(Not) wedding planning

Have you all been thinking that I'm being super stealthy about wedding stuff, not discussing it on the blog and then secretly staying up until midnight hand crafting glittered disco balls?

Rest your minds - we've done absolutely nothing except spend one breakfast* meeting** starting a guest list and that was double duty because the more pressing purpose of the list was to get our Christmas cards mailed.

planning, lists
{planning, lists - from our breakfast meeting}

Oh, and I bought an outrageously expensive shrug.

We are so on top of this. Did I mention we're hoping to do it this summer?

* It is my firm belief that all major life discussions should be accompanied by breakfast, alcohol or both. Ideally, our entire wedding will be planned over various happy hours. Sadly, this means we can't make any progress right now because I'm having a post holiday penance week with no alcohol or carbs. Wedding planning will commence this weekend, unless we find something better to do.

** I like to call most of our discussions meetings, while D feels that is a little cold and businesslike. Since this is my blog, I'll continue to refer them as meetings regardless. Editorial privileges and whatnot.

  2. Ahh I like the idea of planning a wedding around happy hours. I can't wait to here about more of your meetings :)

  3. we did all of our planning with alcohol. we were "researching" which wines to serve!

  4. Haha, are you me? I'm getting married this summer and wouldn't have anything planned if it weren't for my mother constantly bugging me about it. Since I'm in Boston and the wedding is going to be in Portland, OR, my parents have been looking at venues for me and have insisted that we have a date soon. And we have a tentative guest list. I think that reading East Side Bride counts as wedding planning.

  5. I love how collaborative and relaxed your planning process seems to be, at least at this beginning. Thanks for sharing little glimpses into setting up the big day! Also, I'm sure you could do this by summer, depending on your planned intricacies - my cousin plans on doing exactly the same! I wish you much luck and success.

  6. You can do it - no worries whatsoever... we got engaged on New Years Day last year and married the first week of August (in LA too if you want any help I've got tons of recommendations for vendors).

  7. love the shrug. i scrolled through some of the ESB site just because i covet pretty wedding and am amazed at the prettiness these days. as i was reading about first song lists i thought the dj's advice was great so have tailored it to suit you today - before the next planning session, go out to a deserted section of the countryside and snog for a bit - i think would make the planning extra sexy fun!

  9. Don't fret about time. I planned our (bragging here) gorgeous wedding in about a month and a half.

  10. Wedding planning would've been so much easier if I'd involved alcohol every time. *sigh* Of course, by the wedding I probably would've been a raging alcoholic, heh.

Not that you're asking for advice, but the best advice I ever received was to pick the 3 most important areas to you and your fiance', and focus your budget on those areas and cut costs for the other places. =D Can't wait to see what creative ideas you come up with - I love wedding talk!

  11. don't even worry! you've got this planning thing in the bag!
no carbs, eh? hmmm....i'd be speding most of this week thinking about all the carbs i'd want to be eating... :)

  12. East Side Bride is a good start! I don't think you should have any problems considering how grounded you sound (and your delightful taste). The wedding will be a beautiful reflection of your relationship and that's really all that matters.

Also, why didn't I think to plan me and SO's wedding over wine? Too late.

  13. You guys give me hope! 6 months(ish) seems like plenty of time and then I start panicking a little when lots of places are booked and someone mentions that you are supposed to order your dress more than 6 months in advance. We're taking the easy approach.

@ Holly - technically it's only 5 days. My theory is that you can do anything for 5 days, as long as you know there is a definite end point. It's Thursday and I'm only a little cranky, so I think I'll make it through!

  14. "Since this is my blog, I'll continue to refer them as meetings regardless. Editorial privileges and whatnot." haha you crack me up! The no alcohol/no carb week is very inspiring. I can do the no alcohol easy, it's the carbs! Cheers to wedding planning!

  16. That shrug was gorgeous. Good call on buying it.

Also a good call? Wedding planning + happy hours. Hopefully that'll keep everyone chill. :) Glad it's going well so far!

  17. You can definitely do it! I am planning ours right now for this April and am doing so much crafting and what not on my own. It is fun and somewhat stressful. But I was happier to do it in a shorter amount of time because I figured I'd have less time to stress out that way. Oh and my dress took less than a month to come in and get altered. Crazy!

  21. Dude, you have pu-LENTY of time. We planned ours in three months, and you saw the pictures. (And by we I mean I, since P. was in The Sandbox and the Marine Corps doesn't include Wedding Planning under Combat Mission Prerogatives.)

So keep the Bloody Mary mix on hand, and enjoy the Meetings. Capital M.

  22. Healthiest wedding post I've ever read. You have SO got this sh*t. I really only think you need three months for anything worth having.

  24. I did the exact same Christmas card list/guest list thing. And yes to carbs/alcohol being a necessity! :)

  26. Rachel(#4): Add reading APW to ESB & you are me! I love it. After months, mmm years?, of my momma's knowing sighs, I finally said in February, fine - let's do it - um, in May. A little DIY/T & not the prettiest wedding but a feast & coming together of friends + family it was.
HoL Rachel: You & D definitely got this. And I'm totally stealing the breakfast and/or alcohol as prereqs for major discussions. FAB idea.
