He's not exactly new, seeing as he accidentally joined our family back in October, during the epic weekend of dog misadventures. We tried to find his owner, by putting up flyers and spreading the word and checking Craigslist. Nada.
After he had lived with my parents for a couple weeks, they theorized that he might have been purposely lost, due to his complete lack of house training, his tendency to chew on furniture and bolt for the front door whenever it opens and his crack addict like level of energy. In addition, he is admittedly bizarre looking, with a long body, a pronounced underbite and a tail so long it curls over and touches his back. He was white when we got him, but he keeps darkening (making his name more and more ridiculous) and he's developed a racing stripe on his back.
He does have redeeming qualities - he's the most snuggly dog we've ever had and it's wildly entertaining to watch him slam into the walls when he gets worked up. Most importantly, Circe is in love. They spend all day playing and gnawing on each others ears. He cries hysterically if you try to separate them even briefly. She's happier than she's ever been (no longer starts fights with other dogs, no longer hides under the couch in a sulking fit), and now we feel terrible that she was an only dog for so long.
Accidental pets are the best.

OH! so glad you kept him. i'm sure he is glad, too. he seems like a sweetie, despite his shortcomings. xo.
ReplyDeletepretty cute- definitely made me smile! i will not let my husband see this post, as he is constantly badgering me about getting another dog. i'm just not sure i could handle an equal dog-to-human ratio.
ReplyDeleteAhhh! Hi Snowy. I'm so happy you & Circe are sweethearts!
ReplyDeleteHe's so cute and sprightly, glad you took him into your home!
ReplyDeleteHahaha only dog...that's so awesome they get along. Circe is quite the catch, too, because most dogs get so jealous!
ReplyDeletePerfection.
ReplyDeleteWHAT AN ADORABLE LITTLE BEAN! He's so cute!!! What a wonderful story!

i'm so happy for you guys, for snowy, and for circe - chuck was the same way when we brought jude (an accidental pet with a pronounced overbite - coincidence?). congratulations to all of you!
ReplyDeletesnowy sure did get lucky!!
ReplyDeleteso great!! i had a dog with a crazy underbite when i was growing up....everyone laughed at her...but i loved her so!
ReplyDeletethanks for sharing snowy
i love him.
ReplyDeleteyes they are! i'm so glad she's yours now... i'm so glad there's loving people like you who believe that accidental dogs are the best :)
ReplyDeleteyou make me smile!
how could anyone resist a smiling snowy?
Oh my gosh.... what a great face! I'm partial to wire-hair terriers, so Snowy warms my heart. xo.
ReplyDeleteHe's cute! Perhaps you could change his name to Sandy?
ReplyDeleteHe is the cutest!
ReplyDeletethe next time someone gets a dog and it's not me, i might cry.
ReplyDeleteexcuse my selfishness... very happy for you and SNOWY!
It is beautiful that you adopted him. Loved reading this.
ReplyDeleteWe are snowed in here in NYC, he would probably enjoy it very much-the snuggling and the snow that is, he is too cute!
ReplyDeleteSuch a cutie pie! Some dogs do so well with siblings - glad that Circe is one of them!
ReplyDeleteawww, Snowy is adorable! I'm glad he found a new, albeit accidental, family! and how sweet that he and Circe are now best buds! maybe it was meant to be :)
ReplyDeleteSnowy looks kind of similar to our rescued pup, Ziggy! http://www.flickr.com/photos/thelifeandtimes/5223154766/
ReplyDeleteWhen we adopted Ziggy we were told that he was 1/2 wire haired terrier and 1/2 mini poodle. Looks like Snowy is some sort of terrier mix as well!
nothing against circe, but she could learn a few lessons from Snowy. he sure is a charmer in front of the camera!
ReplyDeleteI love him, too! That first picture kind of makes me want to steal him, but there's no way I could do that to Circe. ;)
ReplyDeletehe's so cute! i love him! its so nice to see people open their homes to animals. all he needed was a good home, and its all thanks to you guys!
ReplyDeleteOh! What a sweetie. Our cat was an "accidental pet" too and now I wouldn't have it any other way. They are so much happier together and we don't feel nearly as guilty taking off for the weekend knowing they have each other to cuddle and chase around the house.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your new(ish) addition!
Aww that is so sweet about them being the best of friends, tears at my heart!
ReplyDeletewelcome snowy!!! what a good sibling to make circe happy
ReplyDeleteYou should look up welsh terriers; he sounds like my parents' little dog, and that's what we think she is--among other things. But that's definitely their personality type. He's so cute!
ReplyDeleteOh Snowy, you're a sweetheart. I'm so happy for Circe too. This post was just so heartwarming - as if I needed anything more to egg on my pup obsession!
ReplyDeleteThat is so sweet!
ReplyDelete@ Amy - he looks so much like your dog! I think he must be something similar. Half poodle, half wire terrier seems like such an unlikely combo, but it looks just right!
ReplyDelete@ everyone who feels jealous - If it makes you feel any better, he isn't really ours. He (and Circe) are family dogs, and they live at home with my parents. We live in a (sadly) dog free apartment building. So we're just weekend/vicarious dog owners.
Aww what a beautiful, gregarious pup! He certainly is photogenic! I love rescue pets, they make the best companions.
ReplyDeletewhat a wonderful new addition to the family! rescued pets with their own particular neuroses certainly make for great new friends :)
ReplyDeleteHe's wonderful! We've found spare dogs a few times now but (devastatingly) their stupid owners have always turned up within a few hours. Bastards.
ReplyDeleteI think that Snowy is mostly border terrier. I adopted a little border terrier mutt, and she has the same lean, lanky terrier build. They are so trusty and sweet!
