Friday flowers

A tiny splurge on a single, heavy stem of orchids.

Orchids are pricey if you plan to buy lots of them, but I love the uncluttered simplicity of a single stem ($4 at the farmer's market) in a brown bottle. Plus they hold up well. I wouldn't be surprised if this guy is still kicking around next week.

  6. Wow...$4 for an orchid!
Up here in Canada, you would pay at least $30 for a stem like that...no kidding.
    Enjoy...it's beautiful.

  10. @ lauren - yep, midcentury via craigslist. part of our beloved dining set.

@ sheena - gasp! $30 would have swayed me against the purchase. there's only one stall in our farmer's market that has cut orchids and the prices are always like this. i think the owner might cultivate them himself, at home.

  15. I don't usually like orchids, but this is gorg. Something about the bottle makes it work.

  16. @ bigBANG - i've passed the orchid compound! i somehow didn't realize you could actually GO INSIDE! Exciting.

@ Bella - i kill potted orchids. very, very quickly. so i've started just buying them cut. at least then it's not fault when they finally die.

@ {lauryl} - brentwood farmers market! the guy who sells them is in the middle of the market, on the east side. he's a very sweet older asian gentleman and he always has a great selection of flowers, often including some orchids.
