Underneath it all

Warning - this is a post about undergarments. For females. There are a few scantily (but tastefully) clad women ahead. If you prefer to stay blissfully ignorant of my underwear buying habits, click away now.

For the rest of you, this is a quick heads up about the Victoria's Secret Semi-annual sale, which is going on now. Please don't tell me you buy things from them when they aren't having a sale. Wait for the sale and stock up. Online, not in the stores. Those bins full of jumbled bras are impossible to deal with, in my opinion.

VS has long been a utilitarian store for me. The basics work great, but it's not as if they stock anything particularly lovely. Until I discovered one of their new(ish) lines - Intimissimi. Apparently it is Italian lingerie. I can vouch for the fact that all the pieces I've indulged in so far are comfortable, affordable and neither bland nor covered in trashy red lace.

Check out some of my faves.

See the whole collection here. That flowery silk slip may have ended up in my order, despite the fact that I almost never allow myself to purchase frivolous things on my yearly stock piling expedition. But isn't it lovely? And it's on sale for half off.

Since I place a big order once per year, it pays to research coupon codes. The site proudly boasts free shipping on orders over $100 (VSFRSHIP) but I found one that gave me a better deal. SP917305 is a tiered coupon, so you get $15, $30 or $75 off your order of $100, $150 or $250. You can't combine it with the free shipping, but if you're placing a big order it is a much bigger savings. I think it expires on 6/05, so you have to use it this week. I was able to scoop up 6 bras, 13 bottoms and the indulgent slip for just $210 with tax and shipping (minus the discount).

Now I feel a little awkward because you all know exactly how much I spend on my underwear every year. Are we officially too close? Feel free to tell me something about your buying habits. Do you have a much more fabulous source that I should know about and take into consideration?

  1. Oh my goodness! If I had only known :) I just went to Vickies this weekend and picked up my bi-annual panty-splurge! They have some of the comfiest panties!

Thank you for all the help and insight, and no, I think this type of information is just as important as that secret ingredient in your coconut cream pie! Very helpful :)

    XOXO

  3. I like the sharing. I think it's important. And honestly, that's quite the deal on undies, so you should be proud.

I do not go into Victoria's Secret because of the 11-year olds who work there and come at me with tape measures. Also, it makes me want to throw things in there. But I'm glad you and VSonline can be pals.

  4. You've really done your homework!

I don't usually splurge, but buy them in small batches throughout the year when I need a fix.

I can get a good deal when I get those "free panty" coupons, then I pair it with the $10 gift cards I get whenever I buy enough with my VS credit card.
Then, I go for the 5-for-$25 deal in the store, and end up walking out with 6 pairs for $15; 50% off! To top it off, they usually throw in a free gift with the *pink* purchase.

Now, my VS credit card has been tucked safely in my wallet for quite some time... I have no doubt it will be pulled out today to take advantage of that sale!

  8. I sometimes go to H&M. I have found that figuring out the sizing at H&M is difficult because all of their stuff is super tiny. And it shrinks. So, maybe don't go there. Haha

  11. I love the 3rd one! And so smart to do it online. Those women in the store are animals during the sales. And thanks for sharing the coupon!

  12. i do love intimissi...it's def. my favorite collection from VS. i don't understand why the sizing has to be different, though...bras are hard enough!

  13. I am in desperate need of new bras. I am still sporting the ones I had pre babies. they dont even fit, way too big. would this count in my shopping hiatus? hmmm.

  14. I saw Intimissimi everywhere in Italy, but was too afraid to go in b/c I know Italian sizes are very very small. Didn't need such an ego buster on my honeymoon. 210.00 for all that stuff? Amazing!

  15. i think we should all break it down and talk about our pretty underthings every now and again, man. and these are very pretty indeed: you're doing the internets proud by sharing your scary-in-store-sale-avoiding web kung fu!

(and as far as basics that aren't quite so blah go, i've been pleased with the VS biofit now that they've added lace. makes a world of difference!)

  18. lovely slip! thanks for the head's up.

one tip for whenever/if-ever you have a baby and plan on breastfeeding: get your nursing bras from www.breakoutbras.com. the website itself is nothing fancy, but they have quality undergarments at the best price -- and the widest ranges of sizes, which is especially good for little/average sized women who suddenly have more breast than they know what to do with.

i don't think it can be over-stated that investing in good bras that fit makes all of your clothes look better, and it's priceless when a "mama belly" can make ya feel little frumpy sometimes! :)

at 25 with my first baby, i am thankful to find lovely skivvies that actually fit me as i'm breastfeeding.

  19. What a great post. That is very encouraging. I don't think it's too personal at all. I think it helps us feel that you as a blogger are more of a real person.

  22. This was all the motivation I needed to finally buy that bio-fit seven way bra and of course some italian stuff too. Lately I have been really happy with the Gilligan & O'Malley bras at Target. They make a line of cotton bras that have these really nice molded cups.

  23. Oh how I wish I could wear sweet nothings like this! I adore the skinny straps, the wisps of lace, the fun colors and prints.

Gals like me--ie. gals who have had the body of a 50 year old woman since they were 13--we have to wear nude colored girdle-type undergarments with straps as wide as the strait of gibralter and support systems more carefully engineered than the hubble telescope.

And now we are OFFICIALLY too close :)

  24. Ha! Firstly I am super jealous as we don't have V. Secret here in the uk. Secondly I love that slip and the underwear in pic 2 and thirdly I am in awe at your organisation skills in buying your underwear in bulk - wow! I am never that organised and just shop as and when I need new underwear!
