Friday flowers

Peonies!

Peonies are here! I made a beeline for the them in TJs on Monday and I've been enjoying them all week ($6.99 for 5 gorgeous stems). I love watching as they open up and get even more ruffly. They are in a glass jar that does double duty (it can be a vase or a juice pitcher).

Peonies!

There is my dining room table, which I did not clean for this picture, in an effort to be honest. No, I don't use my iron on the table. It's just sitting there, waiting to be put away. Although I would really like to be able to iron directly on the table because it is so much larger than the puny ironing board. Is there some kind of cover I could use to make that possible without ruining my beloved table?

  1. if im in a hurry i sometimes iron on the floor or table on a towel. not sure how safe that is but it works for me. surely there has to be some kind of cute cover out there somewhere!

  12. Peonies are my ABSOLUTE favourite flowers, hands down! So gorgeous to look at and to sniff. :) Mine have not even broken through the soil yet. It's been a long winter! Maybe in 3 or 4 weeks I will have some of these beauties for my own table.

  13. You know, I bet if you made some sort of slightly cushioned cover for the table (with fire-retardant fabric or whatever would be necessary) that it would work. Also, ironing on the table instead of the ironing board is ingenious. I might investigate the possibility of this...

  16. the towel is the best. had to board for years and my roomie and I always threw a beach towel on the coffee table. I actually prefer it to our stupid board and may toss ours...lol!

  21. A folded sheet works great for ironing on a table top. Your peonies are gorgeous! I'm hoping Whole Foods has finally gotten a shipment because my dining table is begging for them.

  22. I bought the pink ones at Trader Joe's on Monday! They emerged from those small round buds and are now falling on the table, love them

  23. Wow, 5 for $6.99? I should go to Trader Joe's! I'm astonished by the price. If I find peonies for $5 each at the locals florists I'm surprised - they are usually more expensive in my area.
    And your are so beautiful!

  26. You can buy table covers that are heat proof. They are a hard mat and go under table cloths. Try one of those!

  27. Ah I just posted a blog about peonies the other day too. I actually work at Trader Joes and I love just looking at all the peonies. So beautiful. When the ones I have expire, I will definitely buy another bunch. Can't beat the price, plus I get a discount.

  28. Idea: make a cover using Insul-bright (heat-reflecting batting that they usually keep up at the cutting counter) and maybe another layer of batting under it.

$7 for peonies. Everyone grows them here but no one sells them. Boo.

  29. Wish your florist delivered to London:) I've heard of people who use blankets on tables or one can buy double-width boards, but that's really hardcore ironing.

  31. Your peonies are so beautiful and I can't believe how cheap they were. They cost a bomb in Australia, but I might treat myself when they are in season here. Thanks for your kind words on my blog too.
    Best wishes,
