I love the time capsule aspect of having a blog. I can scroll through the archives and see what I was doing a year ago, two years ago, three years ago. The pictures + words transport me back right away, and I remember the light in our old apartment, how it felt to be writing in this space that first year, Dustin at school and the late nights and early morning breakfasts. I remember how I felt as I baked each of these recipes, what I listened to while I worked on the projects. There's a lot of life below the surface, of course, things that don't get written about, either because they were too big or too trivial. All of that floods right back. Assisted memory.
Fall makes me thoughtful, always. Also, hungry.
My gradated fall leaf garland from two years ago.
The mini banners from Halloween last year.
Sage-cardamom-apple pancakes from last year.
Savory apple tart from two years ago (must revisit this ASAP).
Potato-apple latkes from 3 years ago (!).
That apple tart looks amazing!!!

I feel the same way about my blog. It's so nice to look back and remember all the things I've been through since I started. Though my cooking pictures aren't nearly as pretty as yours!

this post is making me feel ridiculously festive!
ReplyDeleteGreat post; Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI love the "time capsule" aspect of my blog, too. (Very well put.) This time, last year, I had just returned from my honeymoon in San Juan, PR.
ReplyDeleteLovely words and photographs, as always. xo.
I hope one day I get this time capsule feeling, just started my blog. it was actually an idea that came from reading your blog and cupcakes and cashmere - even though I don't think I will ever write about fashion hehe
ReplyDeletehave a great Halloween weekend!
Oh man, I remember when you posted that gradated leaf garland. First, I had to look up the word gradated, because it wasn't in my standard vocabulary (sigh) and second I thought it was an excellent idea.
ReplyDeleteAnd now I've added pumpkin cupcakes to my fall baking list. Yum.
This is so awesome. I TOTALLY do the same thing. I'll stroll down memory lane on my blog. That Fall leaf garland was lovely.

I love following your blog. You always seem to nail it. I love the idea of your blog being a bit of a record keeper of time. Thanks for linking back to some of the older posts -- they were great to see and as usual, inspiring!
ReplyDeleteThis is one of my favorite parts about blogging, too! :) Having a way to look back on memories, images, and thoughts from the past truly is lovely.
ReplyDeleteWonderful post!
