He's been working on getting some of our favorite photos and small art pieces framed, by purchasing frames from the thrift store and then spray painting them matte black. He mixed my Dansk pieces in, so they'll be both decorative and easily accessible again.

It'll keep changing as we add new pictures and pieces. I love it. Also, shortly after this photo was taken, I had a total freak out over our clutter. It's a constant battle for us, because I alternate between the urge to have a cozy house that incorporates all the special little trinkets we love (everything that you see in our house is something at least one of us loves - we are pretty brutal about junk) and a sometimes overwhelming desire to live in a museum-like house, sparse and clean and decluttered. There will probably never be a resolution, but we did have a small cleaning rampage on Sunday evening.
Looks fantastic!
ReplyDeleteI'm happy to hear that I'm not the only person who postpones interior decorating in order to catch up on Jersey Shore.

What an organized way to hang pictures! I'm so much more haphazard. I could certainly use a little more structure to my decorating- I'm thoroughly impressed. (Especially since it looks so good!)
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile, my problem is buying frames and not printing photos to put in them and being completely indecisive about where to hang everything... I'll have to scrounge through the recycle bin to see if I can find some newspaper to tape to the wall to figure out a layout.
ReplyDeleteThis may have been the kick in the pants I needed. Thanks!
ah i love the look of this... we're struggling with concrete walls and the desire to hang big paintings above our bed & couch, and maybe a collection of smaller, easier to hang (and less heavy) artwork is the solution!

ps, perhaps you could alternate rooms... some could be cozy & full of trinkets, some could be sparse! that way, whatever mood you're in, you could hang out in the corresponding rooms :)
such a great idea...i might use it for a photo wall i hope to get up in my new place. but like you, i rarely get around to it. perhaps d's available for hire?
ReplyDeletethis looks great! and i love that you put your Dansk up there. genius.
ReplyDeletei'm with you...constantly struggling between totally sparce and "meaningful clutter".
I totally relate to your struggle with cozy + trinkets vs. clean and bare. Sometimes I feel like I need to devote certain rooms to a specific aesthetic. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm the same way, I've got all these frames that need to go up above my desk at home but can't decide what photos to put in them! This turned out lovely - great idea to do the cutouts first! :)
ReplyDeleteLove this Rachel! I completely understand the conflict between minimalism and sentimentality! I think I manage to keep myself in check because of the constant push-and-pull though!
ReplyDeleteThat looks fantastic! I have been on a home decorating kick lately. The problem is we just rent so I can't do too much. We are hoping to buy next year and I am super duper excited to be able to decorate a whole house!
ReplyDeleteThanks, guys! Glad I'm not the only one who has the clutter/sparse conflict.
ReplyDelete@ Kat - We rent and we always paint our apartments and hang art. Even if we're only here for a year, I want it to feel like home! It is kind of annoying when we move because we have to patch the holes and repaint the walls.
I love this! It's functional, beautiful, and indicative of both your styles and treasures. Awesome project, kudos to D!
ReplyDeleteMitzvah tank :).
ReplyDeleteLove it! He did a great job! I'm having a clutter freak out, too:)

I also struggle between museum like living and lovable cluttered chaos (and with two small children you can guess where we are most days...mostly because I am in love with children's literature and we have too many books and NO storage. Anyway, I digress...) Love the newspaper silhouettes=) and the final look. Need to do that with our many blank walls.
ReplyDeletei love walls that have a mix of it all. great wall.
ReplyDeletei love how creative you two are, those newspaper silloettes are awesome.
ReplyDeleteI love jersey shore and I will always watch it instead of doing something useful
