{dahlias, milk glass}
We were walking home from the market and I was carrying my loot in my hands, sans bag, when I realized I had purchased these dahlias and one (heavenly) mango and I was wearing a peach dress. My produce coordinated with my outfit exactly. An amazing feat for someone who has never been able to properly identify complementary/matching clothes and who was pretty relieved when it seemed like the whole concept of matching was being pitched out the window.*
*It has been, right? I mean, people starting wearing black and brown together and then it just sort of spiraled from there, as far as I can tell. I won't say it was a huge relief, because I'd already given up hope of ever figuring out the matching rules, but it was a nice validation.
a fun feature in new york magazine a few years ago ("one is the loveliest color") profiled five people who wear only one color all the time (including karim rashid and the magnetic fields' stephin merritt). the quotes are pretty fantastic ("i started wearing green nail polish, and it spread all over me.")
ReplyDeletei love the idea of matching your produce purchases; if i head out the door today in my bright green jeans, d'you think i could summon the perfect avocado? further investigation required.
This made me laugh. I had always told my husband not to wear brown with black or blue with black....then one day he saw me mix chocolate brown boots wih black leggings and he was confused, angry and excited all at once. The "rules" were gone :)
ReplyDeleteMatching your produce! How fetching! And love the dahlias - it's been so long since I considered dahlias!
ReplyDeletehahaha! i wish someone had taken a photo! sounds like a great color combo! plus, mangos and dahlias might be two of my all time faves.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe this happened and there is no photo evidence! Would've been such a pretty shot. Gorgeous flowers as always. xox
ReplyDeleteI bought peachy flowers yesterday too. Yours are divine!
ReplyDeleteha yes, you're very right about the way people now mix "clashing" colors and patterns, but regardless i'm sure you looked beautiful!
ReplyDeletethe color of those dahlias is perfection...gahhhh. i just love that color. happy weekend rachel :-)
ReplyDeleteI am reading the back log of your blog since I just stumbled upon it and just wanted to know what kind of dog that ADORABLE Circe is!
ReplyDeletewhat about navy blue and black??
ReplyDeletejust gorgeous, and i love the word itself
ReplyDeleteI love your featured photo. The color is amazing, so I am sure your choice of outfit was great as well. Hope you have a wonderful and relaxing weekend.

These are such a gorgeous cheerful colour, dahlia's are one of my all time favourites! What a pity they didn't last too long. Oh and how funny with your outfit, it all sounds wonderfully summery to me, and that can only be a good thing : )
ReplyDeleteI think color coordination peaked in the 80's. I hate it when my sh*t matches.
ReplyDeletedahlias are my very fave...these are lovely!
