The weekend, briefly

Such a busy weekend and I didn't manage to take nearly enough pictures to capture it all. We had three birthdays + a graduation.

There was plenty of dessert.

meringue, peaks

A teeny tiny amount of creative time (although not with the serger, which I don't know how to use - I just love the way it looks).

Some very worn out dogs.

Leftover birthday cake + tea for breakfast. Yum.

  4. I do not think there is anything better than birthday cake for breakfast. I agree with Olivia, by the way- that cake is absolutely stunning.

  6. Wow. Love that cake with the flowers! Such a great idea. But the sleeping dogs take the cake, literally. Is Shauna a Malamute? She looks so much like my Huskie:)

  7. Ooh, yes, leftover cake always makes the best breakfast! Bonus points if it's frosted and super-indulgent...I love taking a ridiculously sinful break from oatmeal every so often.

  12. @ everyone - I can't take credit for any of the gorgeous desserts! The pies were made by my mom (rhubarb-strawberry for my sis, lemon meringue for me) and the beautiful cake was made by my stepmom.

re: dogs - Shauna belongs to my Dad and stepmom, and she's Alaskan malamute and Siberian husky. Baxter is a foster dog they are taking care of while he recovers from hip surgery (poor thing!) and he's a Rottweiler-Labrador mix.

  13. "There was plenty of dessert."

This is why we get along, you and me. The assessment of social gatherings by the presence of baked goods.

Also, Shauna is striking. Not as cute as Circe, but beautiful in a Diana-Goddess-of-the-Hunt way.

  15. Birthday cake is the best breakfast. Now I want to make cake. I can never find the right icing. I don't like the sickly sweet, forms into a hard shell icing. I want something that stays light.
