Cabinet re-vamp

I am always in need of more storage space. So why have a side table when you can have a side cabinet that can be stuffed full of fabric?

I found this cabinet on Craigslist, where it was rather optimistically described as "shabby chic." It was certainly shabby. And I'm not even showing you the hideous black stain defacing the top of it.

We (and by we, I mostly mean D, who kindly took over this project for me) washed it up, primed it and then painted it a warm grey.

To make it a little more fun, we painted the inside of the drawers bright green.

It fits in perfectly.

And it's already stuffed full.

  5. What a cool revamped piece! That gray is the perfect tone, and I'm crazy for the green surprise on the inside. I've a bench a neighbor gave to me -- a bit "shabby chi" itself -- and I need to get to work on it today. Thanks for the inspiration, Rachel.

  28. Oh, truly lovely but, please, please, please: Will you tell us what grey you used? Imitation being the sincerest form of flattery, you (and D) are sure to be flattered near and far. And who would have guessed the grey chest and blue walls would go so well together? Well...of course, you did!

  39. Hey Rachel- I had a really similar cabinet that I've had for a couple of years now. I hated the color but couldn't commit to a dramatic change... until I saw your post!
    I was seriously inspired...
