Insanely juicy oranges from the garden
The grape vines are still dressed for fall
In other news, I'm jumping on Joslyn's bandwagon (read her lovely explanation here) and not buying anything new for the next 3 months. Except I'm wimpy and I've decided to take it literally. I will buy nothing new for the next 3 months, which means that my thrift store obsession can continue. After all, I feel like buying used things is slightly different - more of an attached experience, less mindless acquisition. Also cheaper. Or maybe I'm just justifying this to myself. What do you think?
Massive full moon spotted while driving home - much bigger than it looks in the picture
I love the first picture of the oranges! It's so fresh and the colors are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteHave you visited Living Small, my dear? Ms. Smaller is marvelous, and last year engaged in "The Year of No New Threads," which is to say that everything she bought for a year had to be thrifted, made by a local artist, or recycled in some way. Way to go you!

Beautiful photos of the oranges. Now i'm craving one :)
ReplyDeleteI'd love to join you and Joslyn on this 3-month adventure...perhaps if I steer clear of all J. Crew stores this could actually happen. But I agree with you-thrifting should definitely be allowed!
i actually considered taking a drive simply to take a picture of the moon that night and realized i couldn't capture it in all of its bright and massive glory. you actually did it justice and i love how it's just poking in between those buildings.
ReplyDeleteLove the picture of the grape vines - so beautifully red!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the spending ban - I actually just blogged about the opposite! But, I agree with you, thrift store and flea market finds don't count. :)
I think this is an excellent idea! I have a girlfriend who put it this way, "I'm putting myself on a used diet!"
ReplyDeleteThose oranges are gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI love these pictures I just want to take a bite out of those oranges!
ReplyDeleteI've been thinking of putting myself on a budget, rather than just not spending (because I'm sure that's like crash-dieting). I do need to reset my appetite for constantly having new things, maybe I'll go a week each month without something new?
ReplyDeleteIn my resolutions, I set down some big purchases I have to make, so every time I'm tempted by some cute little thing, I try to remember I need those things more.
These pictures are divine!
beautiful shots - love the oranges -they jump off the page
ReplyDeleteI have put myself (and my family!) on a spend-freeze for the next 30 days (just in time to buy a little something for my love for v-day!). But I love your loop-hole! Maybe we can sneak etsy in there too... since it's hand made!
ReplyDeleteRachel- beautiful pictures! Sounds like you had a great visit home.
ReplyDeleteI worked out a budget for the new year. Which, erm, definitely calls for thrift and resale rather than new. (Hooray for Los Angeles!) Plus I think Jane is right, the crash diet sounds like a recipe for disaster.
ReplyDeletegorgeous photos!
ReplyDeletepost recipes, post recipes! we saw the moon too. it was insane!
ReplyDeletelovely images. the bits of turquoise hue are dreamy. brilliant 3 month idea, excluding the vintage or reclaimed items. good call.
ReplyDeleteYour food photography is lovely Rach! Speaking of oranges, I just squeezed myself a fresh cup of OJ from my weekly CSA box.
ReplyDeleteI totally concur and support your spending commitment! I can't even remember the last time I bought something "new." I really try to live by the Wabi Sabi philosophy that everything in my house should either be highly useful or something I absolutely love, and when possible, fit both requirements. My mother always taught me that it takes energy to throw out the things you paid good money for.
your photographs are stunning my dear...wow! I wish you all the luck in the world regarding your nothing new quest! I tried it and lasted about 2 weeks...I am a mess! xo t
ReplyDeleteWe are trying the no dining out, no restaurants with over priced bad food. The challenge is to prepare all our food and what I thought would be harder is actually not bad.
ReplyDeleteI think this is a great challenge. I'm game.
