  8. i love sarah's comment above... i never thought about it, but i love looking at my husband's ring hand too! he jokes sometimes about taking off his ring (last night he threatened to put it on the cat's tail "so i would be married to the cat") and although i laugh i'm usually thinking "no! don't take it off!" it's nice to see a physical manifestation of his love for me :)
and lovely pictures, as always. seems like you've got wonderful weather!

  12. I love that view "the palms" - my offices are right next to that garage! Since moving to LA I'm always awed by the awesome views provided by parking garages.

  16. what do you do with your beet greens? I now know what to do with beets but I keep the poor leaves in the crisper until they go bad because I don't know what to do with them.

  17. @ Maggie - You can do almost anything that you would normally do with spinach or kale! I'll admit that beet greens aren't my *favorite* green. They're a little tough, I think. But I can't bear to waste them and they're good cooked.

I slice the greens from the stalks first, set the stalks aside and chop the greens roughly. Then I wash the greens and the stalks separately and chop the stalks up a bit. I toss a bit of butter or olive oil in a hot pan, saute the stalks first, with a bit of garlic and once they start to soften I'll toss in the greens along with a splash of white wine. They cook down pretty quickly. Season with salt and pepper and a bit of acid (either lemon juice or balsamic vinegar).

I kept them in the fridge once they were cooked and then just pulled them out to add to meals. They're nice as a green side and they work really well in an omelet or frittata.

I should look for more ideas, though.
