I loved my Satsuma Press letterpress calendar last year (still enjoying it as the months dwindle) so I made sure to get my order in for next year's edition early. And then Lynn, who is the genius behind Satsuma Press, mentioned that she was rolling out a line of new custom holiday cards. I never send cards, because it requires effort and I never find any that seem worth it. But these ...

These deserve to be sent. We spent approximately two days intensely debating what short phrase we should use on the cards. Twelve million points to anyone who recognizes the quote on our wreath cards, above.
In the end we picked two different designs with two different phrases. Now we just have to decide who gets what. I think that what appeals to me about these cards is the feeling they give me. They feel special, right down to the texture on the paper. They feel the way I want the holidays to feel - unhurried and well thought out and simple.
If you want to nab a set for yourself, Lynn is generously offering a giveaway for three winners over on Oh So Beautiful Paper. I would jump on that if I were you. Quickly, because the deadline to enter is Friday.

Lynn puts so much love into all her work, and I was pretty floored over my package of goodies. The details are always just right. I'm super excited about adding her letterpress gift tags to fancy up bottles of wine and little brown paper wrapped packages.

Must. wait. till. after. Thanksgiving.
Oh! Oh! "It's fruitcake weather!" comes from Truman Capote's "A Christmas Memory" which is one of my very most favorite parts of Christmas. You quoting it, me catching the reference and having the chance to think about that story, and being the first to say so: this has all made my day. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteI love the simplicity and class of those cards! I'm awful with correspondance in general, Christmas cards most of all, but those cards have given me pause. I was excited to read Deja's post above, as I have no recollection of that quote, but am now eager to read yet another work by Capote. :)
ReplyDeleteit is indeed fruitcake weather, buddy. beautiful cards - thank you for the reminder to get started on ours!
ReplyDeleteDONT WAIT.
ReplyDeleteI am always shocked when all of a sudden i am behind and people like you have been getting ready for MONTHS so, don't wait.
I hope the recipients all make you kites.

I've been obsessing about Christmas and the Holidays as well....nice to see I'm not alone :) I only give cards to a select few people, but these are too adorable to pass up!
ReplyDelete@ Deja - Yay! You are good.
ReplyDeleteAs are the rest of you, of course! I'm so glad we share a mutual love of "A Christmas Memory". It is by far my favorite Christmas story.
@ jamie - are you sure you want to open those floodgates? because i'm happy to start sharing my obsessive early planning, but i don't want to freak people out. you know, normal people who don't start thinking about christmas before fall even really gets started.
These are gorgeous cards! I always wait until December to think about Christmas cards and then, with all the other holiday chaos, it's just too late. I am glad you brought them up before Thanksgiving! Must. Start. Planning!
ReplyDeleteI just found your blog and love it! :)
These are beautiful! My family never sent out holiday cards. Maybe it's time I change that pattern....
ReplyDeleteBisous,
