Your commercials bug me. Cheerful talking mannequins are weird.
Your sizing is completely bizarre. Maybe you should work on that.
Your "sales" generally suck. Knocking a dollar off the regular price does not qualify as a sale, in my opinion.
Nevertheless, I do appreciate the fact that you have a lot of dresses with sleeves right now. Sleeves are good for people like me who do not spend all our spare time doing push ups. Neither of these are particularly groundbreaking, but they would look very good with my boots this fall.
{Old Navy v-neck jersey dress}
I might even buy one of them. IF I can convince myself to go to the store and IF I can actually find either one amongst your piles of stuff.
I also want to check out your $5 opaque tights. Because I have a hard time believing that there is much difference between your $5 tights and Gap's $10 tights and Urban Outfitters' $14 tights.
Maybe we'll meet have to meet up this weekend to discuss it.
Love,
Me
I have some Old Navy tights, they are pretty nice. LOVE those dresses, I might have to visit my local Old Navy now.
ReplyDeleteI like that second dress, you'll definitely need some luck finding one in your size in the sea of clothes that are always piled high in those stores! Just don't go near the jean wall, it may avalanche & you'll have to dig your way out!
ReplyDeletecould not agree more with every point you made here.
ReplyDeletethanks for the heads up on the dresses! i want to run to old navy right this second to start searching for that gray|black number.
I got my tights at Ann Taylor. They were in the $14-range and I am wondering if I should buy my next pair at Old Navy. Despite the sizing issues, I have found some pretty good buys at Old Navy.
ReplyDeleteOH! Thanks for the FYI on the tights! I have been resisting paying $15 for the ones I like at Nordstrom, I might have to brave Old navy this weekend too!
ReplyDeleteAlso I agree completely on your point on Old Navy..
I find their stores completely overwhelming and horrible. That having been said, I've gotten some absolutely fantastic deals on pretty great clothes at Old Navy.
ReplyDeleteIt really is a dillemma.
Those are totally darling. Old Navy is hit or miss, but I'm kind of jonesing for these babies. And their tights are pretty workable, I find.
ReplyDeletegood luck this weekend! I hope Old Navy is nice to you ;)
ReplyDeleteLet me tell you that Old Navy has AMAZING opaque tights that are no different from Gap's or J.Crew's (I have made the comparison). I highly recommend!
ReplyDeletethis is hilarious. let us know how your meeting goes this weekend.
ReplyDeleteWho needs groundbreaking when you have plaid?
ReplyDeleteThe mannequins freak me out, too. Esp. the commercial with the "pregnant" mannequin in the tankini. And also the word "tankini."
Best tights I've ever gotten are the Merona brand opaque tights from Target. They are soft, durable, and don't suffocate me with their intense control tops (I'm talking to you Ann Taylor). They are also cheap - I think $12 for a 2-pack.
ReplyDeleteThank you! You said it perfectly!
ReplyDeleteI'm with ya! Although I'm more concerned with keeping my arms warm in the cooler weather. I saw the plaid dress a few weeks ago and I'm waiting for it to get cheaper!
ReplyDeletelet me know what you find since i'm still after the perfect pair of opaque tights...extra points if they're only $5!
ReplyDeleteoo those dresses are super cute!! I have an old navy gift card that needs using... I may need to hit up a store soon :)
ReplyDeleteLOL love the letter. i think their stuff is so cheap so you can be trendy - plus I love their sweater booties to wear around the house.
ReplyDeletePerfectly stated. I often worry about having nightmares about those commercials. Please do keep us posted about the tights.
ReplyDeleteI agree-it's not a store that I usually shop... having said that- I did get two tissue turtlenecks and a fab scarf after reading Simply Seleta earlier this week. I was amazed that they actually had the scarf!
ReplyDeleteI am sooo with you. Old Navy is great for affordable, seasonal pieces you'll probably replace next year anyway. But the thought of going into the store is just cringe-worthy. I've never even tried anything on in an Old Navy because of the chaos and lack of service.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you about Old Navy. I do love that jersey dress though, I may have to order it online. Old Navy is really hit and miss, sometimes I'll find some great deals there and sometimes, not so much.
ReplyDeleteI agree, I don't see how they think that talking mannequins are effective! By the way, great blog, I started reading recently and always enjoy your posts.
ReplyDeleteLoved this! Thanks for taking what could have been a very mundane "cute dresses for fall" post anywhere else, and actually bringing up a lot of points for us thrifty-spendy girls to reflect upon :)
ReplyDeleteOoooh, that plaid dress would look really nice paired with tights and my new black cowboy boots...!
ReplyDeleteBut yes. Especially obnoxious commercials and definitely weird sizing...!
Okay, I have a guilty thing to confess. I just went to Old Navy over this past weekend and bought 3 of these corduroy shirt dresses that were as you say "on sale". They are so cute and have a very a.p.c. feeling to them. I think you and Old Navy do need to meet up this week end to discuss it! ;)
ReplyDeleteI hate the modelquins with a passion. I change the channel when I hear their irritating voices. Come on Old Navy, you've had great ad campaigns in the past, get with the program.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I own that second dress and it's super flattering.
amen. to everything.
ReplyDeleteOMG-I also have a feverish disdain for the talking cheerful mannequins that are currently being featured on the Old Navy ads!!! Oh, the horror. I cannot even watch them when they come on the TV anymore!
ReplyDeleteThat being said, I have found some good deals there from time to time, so I cannot swear them off completely. ;)
Since the Old Navy and Gap tights are probably the exact same tights (thank you parent company!) I'd say go for it.
ReplyDeleteI like Target's tights, I think I buy a brand called Marano or something similiar? But sometimes there are lots of fun colors and sometimes just the basics. I do wear a LOT of gray tights though. I'm just waiting for it to get cool enough and savor the warm weather while I can.
Today was the first day I wore a scarf though- one of those pashmina types- and it is cozy for sitting at my desk.
Oh! I just saw the post above already shared the Target tights love! (Merona brand- often on sale.)
ReplyDeleteAnd much love to You Are My Fave! modelquins :)
every once in awhile you can find a gem at Old Navy. Rare but true. I do like the plaid dress. so me. but probably won't fit right. maybe next time.
ReplyDeleteThis is really cute! I like Old Navy when I am looking for something basic because you can always find it there at a pretty good price.
ReplyDeletecute finds! I have been looking for good plaid. And you can't beat 15 bucks!
ReplyDeleteold navy's sizing is the worst. you can try on 2 items of the same size and they'll be completely different. their sweetheart jeans are the best though, if you can find the right fit.
ReplyDeleteHa! I'm so glad to hear that other people are freaked out by the modelquins and frustrated by Old Navy's sizing and "sales." I must admit that I still wonder inside on occasion...and I will be checking out those tights this weekend. :) Thanks for the tip!
ReplyDeleteMy tights solution is thrift stores - they can't sell used tights, but sometimes you can get them still in package and never worn for $1. Yesssssss. The other idea is TJ Maxx or Marshalls--sometimes they get rather cheap as well.
ReplyDeleteI have the second dress and love it! I wear it with a pair of leggings. And I'm not afraid to admit I love those commercials. I think the humor is witty in a dumb, not-so-serious, fun kind of way.
ReplyDeleteHaha, their sizes ARE completely screwy, aren't they?
ReplyDeleteI have that second jersey dress and let me tell you... it's my absolutely FAVORITE thing I own right now. Sadly, SOMEONE (husband...) threw it in the dryer and it shrunk a bit, but I paired it with some leggings and ended up loving it even more that way. :)
I will co-sign to all of this. Who ever thought that talking mannequins was a winning plan?
ReplyDeleteGood call. A few months ago I told a store manager to pass along the following sentiment to his superiors: Bring back Magic.
ReplyDeleteIt is hit or miss, but I usually enjoy going there.
i love their opaque tights. to be honest, i find them better than gap's tights. (also, for the record: gap owns old navy and banana republic...) they are much better suited for people with bottoms, the old navy ones. and mine haven't ripped yet, even though i wear them. every. day.
ReplyDeletei love that jersey dress! betcha they don't carry it in canada. the canadian stores never get the good stuff. :(
ReplyDeleteI totally bought both of these about a month ago (but a diff color in the two-tone dress). Great minds think alike. I am sure you have checked them out by now, but I want to warn that the fabric of the plaid dress is a bit thin. Requires a cardi paired with it, in my opinion!
ReplyDeleteOk, I just showed my Fiance this page and his only response was 'weird',lol. I was telling him about coming across your blog and how much we seem to have in common so when I had even more illustrations of our similarities, he could just say 'weird' :)
