Bowl night

Hollywood Bowl

+

= a pretty good night

I haven't been won over by the new album yet, but I have undying love for Sam's Town because the insistent beat has powered D and I through many a late night work session.

There was a crazy slick stage set involved, along with pretty confetti and the famous feathered jacket. I do appreciate a glitzy stage show. I mean, if you're going to play the Bowl you should either go super minimal or all out. I enjoy either one.

It was a little disconcerting to find my beloved Bowl packed to the brim with tweens squealing and waving cell phones and glow sticks. D and I just quietly ate our sun dried tomato bruschetta paninis and I tried to find compassion in my heart for them. It was a lost cause. I didn't like myself when I was 13, so I don't see how I can be expected to like anyone else at that age. I can deal with them one on one but when they travel in packs I get skittish.

Best surprise - the Psychedelic Furs opened and the show closed with both bands coming on stage to play Pretty in Pink together. Pretty great.

  2. this was too funny. i love how you two ate your gourmet little sandwiches and tried to drown out the screaming tweens.

  4. I agree about Sam's Town. There are a few songs I like on the new album, but over all not as good an album.

We went and saw No Doubt with the Sounds this summer, the other opener was Paramore. They had the biggest tween following ever. Lucky for us the Sounds had a meet and greet during their set.

  6. aauugh, psych furs! i had the biggest crush an eight-year-old could possibly have on richard butler. my best friend and i attempted a dance routine set to "heartbreak beat" for the talent show in third grade; it would've been very "donnie darko," but i can't dance. they totally passed us over for the girl who lip synched to a jets song.

  8. My favorite line: "I didn't like myself when I was 13, so I don't see how I can be expected to like anyone else at that age." So true! Now I realize why I can never deal with middle-schoolers . . .

  9. chuh....that made me laugh and realize why I hate going to general admission concerts now and will only go to reserved seating.

but...wow, to the bowl has to be gorgeous

  10. Hey, I was there, too! It was quite a sparkly show! Not typical of the bowl shows I've been to in the past (i.e. I usually get to sit down the entire time) but still tons o' fun.

  11. My boyfriend was working at the Bowl last night and had to deal first-hand with all those tweens (and I got a wonderful call at his break describing them in detail, so I'm sure he would have loved a seat and a panini!). Glad you still enjoyed their show!

  13. Hey. Saw the KILLERS at UCI on Tuesday night - 9/15. I'm glad they played some old songs. They stopped in the middle of song because a girl threw up in the pit area. LOL! - Tiffany N.

  16. I saw The Killers in January, and I couldn't believe how amazing the SHOW was. Not just the music, but the light show and the stage and the effects. The openers weren't as great as The Psychedelic Furs though.
