Citrus season

It's late winter in Southern California.

The only time of year when we're so overstocked with oranges that I'm willing to give them up for juicing.

Currently eating 3 per day. And drinking juice on Sundays. Fingers crossed for a nice long season.

  1. Yummy. I love your blog but never twigged until now that you were in S.California. I'm from Ireland and will be visiting S.California at the end of this month. I love art music and having a good laugh. Would you or any of your readers reccommend anywhere in particular to visit?

    1. Fun! Do you know where you'll be going? I'm in Los Angeles so my recommendations (such as they are) would be specific to this city. San Diego is also a lot of fun, though! I'll have to see if I have a list of recs somewhere to share.

    1. I love grapefruit too! I would probably be buying some right now except I feel silly when I have an endless supply of free oranges to get through.

  8. Mmm, citrus. I've been eating clementines like crazy lately. I'm surprised I haven't turned orange yet, actually. (I might have eaten 12 in one day a couple weeks ago...)

    1. Clementines are dangerous! You can go through them so quickly. I love them too.

    1. I know! I still think citrus is really magical. Having something so bright and sweet when everything is still cold outside.

  12. I have so many dang oranges from our CSA that they don't fit in my fruit bowl. Luckily (sadly? not sure which) it takes like three of those babies to get a decent glass of juice!

    1. Yep, so much work to juice them! We were always discouraged from juicing oranges (because it takes so many to get a glass of orange juice, and you don't get the fiber) except at this time of year, when the tree would produce so many that it was impossible to keep up with them otherwise. My family has a giant tree, so we harvest huge bags and then distribute them, if we can find anyone locally who isn't already overloaded.
