Another great thing about the campground is that you have good access to trails with no driving required. We hiked the mist trail to Vernal Fall, which was stunning (and aptly named - we were glad we had our rain shells), and then continued on the John Muir trail a bit further to loop around rather than coming right back down.
It rained in the afternoon, so we holed up by the fireplace in the Ahwahnee for a few hours to dry out and have some drinks.
It was a good reminder that even a short camping trip is better than none at all. And to get our butts in gear to block out some weekend trips and make reservations for the rest of the year.
I love Yosemite and was just there for Christmas! Tons of fresh snowfall. It was so gorgeous. I had previously only been there during the summertime. Looks like a spring camping trip is in order...
ReplyDeleteI read that due to a trademark dispute, the park was forced to change the names of all the iconic places -- Ahwahnee and Curry Village, etc. So horrible! I assume people will continue to use the old names, but I was wondering if they had to change all the signage and reprint maps.
I know - such a crazy situation! I purposely used the old name but we did notice that some of the signage has been changed but the old name is still showing up other places (i.e. some of the physical signs now say "Majestic Lodge" but the printed map we got when we entered camp still says "Ahwahnee"). I didn't hear that Curry Village was also part of it! That is still showing up with the original name everywhere, so maybe they gave in on that? Or it's less critical so they haven't gotten to the signage at all yet.
DeleteThat photo of the trial is wonderful! I'd frame it!! You should sell it on etsy.
DeleteLove Yosemite, it will always have a special place in my heart as I got engaged there. Shame I live in the UK and it is so far to visit!

Absolutely stunning! I hope to visit Yosemite someday - thanks for sharing your trip!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful post! We camped at Lower Pines in October and also hiked the John Muir and Mist Trails. What an amazing place. The Awahnee is a welcome refuge on chilly mornings.
ReplyDeleteThis looks like such a fun trip! I especially love the 'morning light' photo- you're inspiring me to give camping a go!
