The weekend, briefly

My sister and I spent an entire day in our mom's kitchen, baking and making candy.

toffee

Christmas kitchen, orangettes
{orangettes}

Christmas kitchen, linzer
{sugar cookies}

marshmallows
{marshmallows}

It's the nicest way to get ready for Christmas, I think.

*Toffee, orangettes and marshmallow recipes are all from Smitten Kitchen, naturally. The sugar cookie dough recipe is from Blueprint.

  7. Oh, I've been wanting to make marshmallows but haven't had the chance! Did they turn out well? (I'm guessing yes, because it was Deb's recipe and all the things you make always look lovely and/or delicious.)

  10. Wow-you MADE marshmallows?! Mighty ambitious of you...unless they are really easy to make (I'm never made them before).

    Cheers to the perfect way to prepare for the season:)

  12. Kristy, the marshmallows were amazing! I'd tried Martha Stewart's recipe years ago and it seemed like so much more work. Deb's recipe was perfect. Just read all her instructions.

    Ruth, orangettes are so delicious! You take fresh orange peels (super fresh for us, because our parents have a beautiful orange tree), candy them in simple syrup and then dip them in chocolate (not pictured). They are citrus-y and tart and sweet and the tiniest bit bitter, all at the same time.
