Little bits and pieces from the last few weeks ...

Girls' night with Emily - a whole platter of cheeses and a bottle of bubbly. Almost none of that cheese was left at the end of the evening. We take cheese seriously.

Cocktail experiments have been happening. I'll share if I hit on anything really amazing. Even the misses are usually fun.

Afternoon espresso tasting with D. We're on the hunt for our favorite espresso beans and have to try all the contenders.

And, of course, Easter! I made cinnamon rolls, we ate quiche and drank coffee and decided that next year, definitely, we'll get ourselves together and make some kind of adult egg decorating tradition. We usually dye the eggs and hide them but the youngest person in our family is now a 15 year old boy and the egg hunt was starting to seem unnecessary. We ran out of time to figure out an alternate option this year but man, does D have plans for next year. Just you wait.

    1. We haven't made our own but we have a couple of treasured pysanky that we use as Christmas ornaments! (They are supposed to be Easter ornaments but since we don't have an Easter tree I use them at Christmas) I'd love to make them sometime!

  2. That crusty bread and cheese looks amazing... that's still my favorite combination of all time. Are the yellow flowers in the first pic freesia?

  3. This is totally unrelated to anything you posted, but I love your dining chairs.

What were y'all pairing the Meyer lemons with? All I can think to use them with right now is gin. Which doesn't sound so bad, haha.

    1. Thanks! Our dining room set was a really good Ebay score.

I've been doing a basil-lemonade with vodka but almost feel like it's wasted on the Meyers. (would be delicious even with standard lemons) I need to find something just for them.

  4. PS - what were the blown eggs for? Do y'all do cascarones in California? They are quite popular in San Antonio.

    1. We don't do cascarones in CA (or at least not that I've ever seen!) but that will be changing next year - that's what we're working on!

  5. A girls' night that involves that much cheese AND a bottle of bubbly wine sounds like the perfect girls' night to me.

  7. I don't know how much you are willing to wait or pay for your coffee, but perhaps consider coffee from Hacienda San Pedro? It's artisanal Puerto Rican coffee. I didn't drink seriously coffee at all until I stumbled upon it. It's so good.

  8. You're back on coffee? Curious how it's affecting you...I've been having a lot of anxiety lately that I think is caffeine-based.

    1. Nope. Still firmly staying away from caffeine. Sadly, Handsome doesn't have a decaf option but that's what I drink regularly.

I did have a few sips of each espresso that afternoon, though. I can handle occasional caffeine without a problem but if I have it on any kind of regular basis I can feel the anxiety mount up again. Sigh. Such a bummer. I know it sucks but I'd definitely try cutting out the caffeine for a couple weeks to see if it helps with the anxiety. I love my coffee and tea but if cutting it out makes me feel more human, than there's no contest.

    1. Thanks, Tameena! We ate nothing except cheese and bread! Super balanced, right? I had everything ready to go for a salad and pasta but we filled up before we got to it.
