:: notes ::

Spending some time in the kitchen together - making my favorite salsa and trying out fancy drinks for a party.

Quality time with friends - I love how summer means lots of low key get togethers.

Attacking some of our accumulated stuff - I have a terrible fear of suddenly waking up and realizing I'm a hoarder (not totally unfounded, because I do tend to save things and I have a lot of craft supplies) so I want to periodically go through everything and re-evaluate. The process tends to bring out the worst in me, so I set a time limit of 3 hours per session and then we reward ourselves with drinks and some time on the couch.

  1. one of these days, i'd love to sit on your tiny balcony and chat over a drink or two. let's do it.

  2. The one reason I would like to have a garden with a tree is to fill it with party lights. Sometimes your pictures inspire me so much.

    1. I am majorly jealous of that tree with lights. It was at a friends house (an actual house, with an actual yard).

  3. i can relate to the fear of hoarding thing! when my sister helps me clear out my stuff, i get a headache, minor panic attacks, and end up crashing on thecouch while she finishes up (aka puts all my stuff in the goodwill pile.) it's a necessary but uncomfortable chore. yummy drinks are a good reward!

    1. It's just easy to get overwhelmed in the process! And D and I have a disconnect, because I'm overly concerned about accumulating stuff and he's under-concerned about it and thinks it will never be a problem. We're working on meeting in the middle without killing each other in the process. The drinks end up being kind of critical.

      You have such a good big sister!

  4. I've become much better about putting things in the sell/donate pile. My only problem now is that we can't use our garage! Either I have to the garage sale we've been talking about for almost a year, or I just need to call Salvation Army and have them come out and be done with it.

    1. I'm definitely improving on not bringing new stuff into the house and sending it directly to the thrift store. But I still have trouble with my supplies. For instance, do I need an entire drawer full of gorgeous glitter when I've agreed not to use it in our house? Probably not, but it's hard to give up the idea of it. I figure if I cull a few more things each time and stay good about not buying stuff, I'm heading in the right direction, however slowly!

      It's a good time of year for a garage sale! (Other than the heat.) It's always a tradeoff between how much you'll actually make and how much time it will take you. Books don't bring much in, but you might be able to do pretty well with kids clothes, furniture and tools (if you have any of those to get rid of).

  6. I'm the same way when it comes to cleaning. It's an all day process and I always "deserve" a treat at the end.

  7. want to share some of those drinks with me? :) haha I too get nervous about turning into a hoarder as well! Somebody recently told me that my house is "really filled" with stuff. Bad news.
