Not pictured: A rainy trek out to Alhambra for some truly excellent pho. If you live in Southern California, it is crucial that you get into adventuring through strip mall restaurants in search of treasures. It's the only way to go.
Looks like a lovely weekend! I miss the rainy skies (it doesn't rain much here in Connecticut)
ReplyDeleteI don't live in LA but I do know the Vietnamese food in Alhambra is great. Beautiful shower decorations! (Saw them on Emily's blog yesterday) :) You are so crafty.
ReplyDeleteFabulous photos, the shower looks so lovely and personal!

Love the pom poms! Is that the Roof on Wilshire? I love that spot.
ReplyDeleteIt is! It was our first time going and we were afraid the party was going to be rained out, but it cleared up just in time.
Deleteoh my goodness - did you make those pom pom hanging things?! you're going to write a post about that, right??
ReplyDeleteYep, very soon. They are modified from a great Oh Happy Day idea, so you could check that out if you're eager to get going. I wanted a bit more color + volume, so my steps are a bit different.
DeleteI actually just read her entry on the shower and everything looked amazing and so do your details on here! Can't wait to see everything tomorrow :)
ReplyDeletethe ombre cake is so bananas, and i love the gold wall. can't wait to hear more about how all of this came together! mightily well done, as always, rachel!
ReplyDeleteI grew up in Alhambra/the San Gabriel Valley area. In that same plaza, a few doors down, is Noodle King. They offer some tasty soup dumplings for extra cheap. But my favorite spot for soup dumplings is at J & J, also on Valley. There's too much good stuff along Valley Blvd., you can't really go wrong.
ReplyDeleteHa! We saw Noodle King and were joking about how it must be really confusing to be sure that you're at the right place. Good to hear that they are excellent as well. And I'll admit that soup dumplings are more dear to me than pho. I like pho, but not as much as I love dumplings. I have been to J&J before!
DeleteI was in LA this past weekend and it was beautiful after the rain cleared. I love LA right after rain. The mountains look amazing.
ReplyDeleteCan you please please please post DIY instructions for the pom poms? I love them and would love to re-create them at home!
ReplyDeleteComing soon! I linked to the original inspiration in a comment above (sorry - too lazy to link again!) so you can check that out if you're eager to get started. I used a slightly different process and I did manage to snap some step by step photos.
DeleteBeautiful photos as usual! I love how you make the smallest little things seem interesting. You are a wonderful photographer! x

Looks like an awesome weekend! And WHOA on the shower - you went all out! I love it. That gold wall + the fringe-y poms are fantastic.
ReplyDeleteI totally made a pink ombre cake like that for my friend's baby shower last summer; I loved it.
I just discovered your blog thru Emily's and I love it. It's full of wonderful original ideas. It's down to earth, charming and very entertaining.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness I want to crawl into those photos and live in that shower party (I clicked over to Emily's post to see more). What an amazing job you did, such a special way to celebrate your friend.
ReplyDeleteLucky Emily! I saw the post on her blog, it looked so adorable and so fun! Lucky her (:

I must know how you made the fringe Lantern's!!! Working on hiding a Bar area at my son's Bar Mitzvah and think this would be sooo fun!
ReplyDeleteI MUST know how these are done!!!!!
oh that baby fuzz! too cute:) joannaxo
ReplyDeleteYou should definitely trek out to Santa Ana for quite possibly the best Vietnamese food ever!! It's called brodard and is hidden behind a big strip mall. I have friends up in the bay area that have made a weekend trip to get their famous spring rolls! So good...
ReplyDeleteI love Brodard! I have yet to find anywhere that makes spring rolls as good as theirs.
DeleteI'm from Orange County originally, so I was lucky enough to grow up with an abundance of great ethnic food.
