{from the garden}
The very first white dahlias from my mom's garden. We had thought about planting dahlias to use for our wedding and then quickly lost steam (so much advanced planning!). But my mom sweetly ordered a plant anyway, knowing that I love them and they'll always go to good use. And apparently they grow like weeds.
{garden flowers}
The roses and the rosemary were also plucked straight from the garden. I'm going to use the rosemary for cooking, but in the meantime it has been happily pretending to be part of a flower arrangement.
By contrast, I have managed to kill off my entire little herb garden and finally admitted that I need to start over. Hope springs eternal, I guess. I can usually manage to keep it going for a season or two before I get distracted and forget to water.
Looking forward to a busy weekend and a little party to celebrate Em's upcoming wedding. I didn't want to share any of the details beforehand because I like secrets. I will tell you this - I've gone seriously overboard with the dessert and I'm completely unapologetic about it. If you can't do it for something like this, when can you? You have to take these opportunities as they come.
Rosemary from the garden floods me with nostalgia. My mom had a bunch growing in our front yard, too.
ReplyDeleteI think it's so beautiful (and of course, I also love the smell and the taste, so it has everything going for it!).
DeleteThe rosemary adds such a wonderful look to the bunch! Not something that is normal :) LOVE IT! My sister wanted to use dahlias in her wedding last year and we ended up planting a ton for it (and yes, LOTS of planning ahead...) but because it was such a weird summre on the west coast, none bloomed in time and we had to order them anyway!
ReplyDeleteThis is what I was afraid of! If you miss the timing by even a week, the whole thing is blown! But at least you had a lovely garden later on, right?
Deletethe rosemary's a brilliant touch; i love how the leaves' shape echoes the dahlia's petals. i hope you indulge us with big, sexy pictures of em's dessert after the shower - have fun this weekend!
ReplyDeletePictures will be forthcoming, promise.
DeleteCurrently trying to decide if I should go maximalist with everything (how much gold is too much gold?) or try to tone myself down a bit.
WWJBD (what would james bond do)?
DeleteLovely, I used Dahlia's for my wedding last September (yellow and white)...my mom bought a few buckets (along with dragon-snaps and various greenery) from our friends garden stand. It was insanely cheap! My grandma is a florist too so she did all of the bouquets, and arrangements (in mason jars). It was so fresh and Summery looking...siiiigh.

Beautiful! Dahlias are one of my favorite flowers.
Deletesimple & beautiful!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! I love the touch of rosemary, and the dahlia is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI wish I was good at growing things. I always over-water or forget to water or forget everything entirely. :\
Yeah, the green thumb definitely skipped over me. I just get distracted and forget about them and I don't have enough patience to troubleshoot anything else, so I give up quickly if problems arise.
Deletejust so pretty. i love the touch the rosemary adds. i'll have to remember this.
ReplyDeletehave a great weekend!
meg ;)
How sweet! I love Dahlia's and love knowing that they grow like weeds. I can't wait to have my own garden!
ReplyDeleteSimply beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI just started a new herb garden too. Last year's were victim to an aphid intrusion. This year I hope I'm more prepared. Good luck with your new herb garden.
ReplyDeletewow, that dahlia is particularly stunning. i love herbs in arrangements.
ReplyDeleteMmm, beautiful flowers. Hello spring! Good luck with the herbs :)

Yes! I am the girl who made five kinds of cupcakes and five kinds of frosting the day before a labmate's wedding (literally. 8 am to 4 am). And I was nuts to make two of the frostings swiss buttercreams, one of them a cherry swiss buttercream that took five tries to get right, but they were both just so. good. I am always looking for an excuse to do something ridiculous and fun, for the sake of it.
ReplyDeleteWhat an adorable little arrangement! I'm ready for spring :)
ReplyDeletewow what a beautiful and creative arrangement! would never have thought to combine those flowers!
