{lemon + basil}
{dates for stuffing}
{saturday afternoon}
{coolhaus + space cat}
We cooked (way too much food) on Saturday and then spent the whole evening eating it with a good friend. It was almost too chilly to sit out on the balcony but we braved it.
Prompted by this smart lady, we made it downtown for the NorthernGRADE event on Sunday where we resisted buying anything although I was sorely tempted by this gorgeous waxed weekend duffel and D by this jacket. We had to walk around the block a couple times before getting our willpower in check and then we got Coolhaus sandwiches and proceeded to make a huge mess of ourselves. Success?
Stuffed dates are seriously one o my favorite things ever ever.
ReplyDeleteooh, what'd you make with the lemon and basil? I'm intrigued!
ReplyDeleteLemon-basil simple syrup! Perfect for vodka lemonade. I'm still tinkering with the proportions but the recipe I'm basing it on is right here.
DeleteRachel, Have you checked out the weekender bag @ Everlane? It's on the same playing field as the J+V one but half the price. I'm getting it olive for my birthday and can't wait!

Oooh - that is a really pretty bag! Another option to keep on the table, thanks! I've been carrying the same beaten up weekend duffel for over a decade now and it is starting to get downright embarrassing. It started out life as my gym bag, just to give you an idea of how not fashionable it is!
DeleteOh my gosh, that bag. I'm impressed you managed to resist because I don't think I could've. (I'm kind of feeling like I need to go spend all the monies right now, since the whole house thing is settled. Someone might need to take my wallet/the internet away from me for a while.)
ReplyDeleteI'd also love to know about the lemon and basil. I have lots of both right now and need all the ideas I can get.
ReplyDeleteI'm still messing with the recipe (original is a little sweet for my tastes) but this is what I'm working with. So good.
DeleteIs that artificial grass on your balcony or a rug? I've been seriously considering doing artificial grass on our balcony but haven't been sure how well it would work. If so, do you like it?
ReplyDeleteIt is fake grass! It's a relatively fancy kind. You lay it out and then sprinkle little pebbles all over it and they work down into it so it stands up nicely. We've been really happy with it. We've had the same piece on our balcony for 6 years now and we've fluffed it up a few times but it works great. Our balcony can get hot during the summer, so having the grass makes it much more comfortable for bare feet.
DeleteIf you'd considering it, figure out how much you need and then check Craigslist regularly. The size we needed was small enough that we could just use a remnant from someone's larger landscaping job and it was super cheap to get it that way.
Thanks so much - love that you did this! I think we'd be in the same boat in terms of size needed, so thanks so much for the suggestion! I think our little corner of Long Beach is about to become a little greener. By the way, love your blog!
DeleteYour willpower is great! Coolhaus sounds like my kind of substitute. :)
ReplyDeletethat duffel! wowza!! (not helping your willpower)
ReplyDeleteLove your blog.
