2.5 weeks of hard reading. Which isn't to say that it isn't excellently written (it is), just that I got to the last few chapters and kept having to re-read paragraphs to really understand the biology. And I have a biology degree. Now that I've scared you all off, I highly recommend it. I had to wait 5 months for it to be available at the library and it was worth it.

1 easy day of reading. I'll admit it was kind of a relief. Also, that I have heretofore been watching 30 Rock mostly because of Alec Baldwin (you have to admit he kind of steals the show), but I'm now a little more in love with Tina Fey. Even though that cover is so visually disturbing to me that I think I'm going to remove the dust jacket.
I agree - I read Bossypants over the weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteI'm loving Emperor of All Maladies, but I basically stopped reading when I reached those last few chapters (I'd read most of it over a few weeks, but it's been on hold since March). It's just so beautifully written.
ReplyDeleteI never got through Emperor Of All Maladies, I have been wanting to finish because I hate to leave things like that but I might just buy Tina Fey's book first. That cover IS disturbing.
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried to find Tina Fey's book yet at the library, but I imagine that the wait time is similar. I may just wait until it comes out in paperback.

How ironic, I have been wanting to read Emperor of All Maladies. I'm in medical school and know this is perfect for me. Plus, I've only heard wonderful things about it. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI thought The Emperor of All Maladies was excellent. So much information to process, but fascinating. I'm also dying to read Bossypants. I love Tina Fey's sense of humor.
ReplyDeleteI'll have to check on Emperor but I agree with you 100% on the Tina Fey dust jacket. It is one of the only reasons I haven't bought the book. It is beyond disturbing!
ReplyDeleteI've been dying to read bossypants. Definitely on my ever-growing list
ReplyDeleteI agree that it's good to have balance to your reading! I was recently slightly exhausted by some literary fiction, so followed that up by reading the autobiography of Michael McIntyre (he's a comedian here in England and hilarious, but not sure if you'd have heard of him there).
ReplyDeleteFunnily enough I just posted last night about what I've been reading most recently

I saw someone reading this on the bus the other day... they too had removed the jacket. ;)
ReplyDeleteGood balance! I admit I'm a little frightened to read Emperor (family history of cancer)... heard the author speak and it haunts me. But since you all like it so much, perhaps?
ReplyDeletetruthfully i don't know if i will read these books, but you took such interesting and beautiful photographs! tina fey is pretty hilarious ;)
ReplyDeleteOoh, thanks for the tip- adding the top one to my library list :o)
ReplyDeletebossypants made me fall a little more in love with tina fey as well. and yes, the front pic does nothing for the book visual wise. yuck.
ReplyDeleteI love 30 Rock. I have too many hardback books so I'm waiting for Bossypants to come out in paperback. I am terrible at returning library books.
ReplyDeleteI've heard great things about bossypants. It's on my list of things to read.
ReplyDeleteYou tell such a great story coupled with your snapshots! I would love to get some reading time soon myself.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE Bossypants! Tina Fey has to be one of the funniest people on the planet.
