Making a new headband is so fast and easy that it makes me feel very productive.
This new one is slightly different from the last. Instead of braiding, I tried knotting it.
Want to make one? It's very, very simple, especially if you used to spend lots of time making friendship bracelets.
What great instructions. I just had my hair cut, but will make one for a friend that always wear some cool headband. THANK-YOU!
ReplyDeleteI need to try this since my hair is so fine...but I can't do elastics as they make my head hurt. Great instructions
ReplyDeletethat mint green looks so pretty against your hair. and i must say, i rather like the idea of a simple tie in the back!
ReplyDeletethanks for the instructions! I can never wear these things because they always slip off my head, but I'm going to try this!

ReplyDeletediagram?!?!
ReplyDeletesweet.
You are so cute! And crafty.
ReplyDeleteDude, this is SO gonna be our next Christmas party craft. Wonder if there is a way to weave in something special, like a flower or brooch or something?
ReplyDeleteLOVE, LOVE, LOVE those!! That is so funny and brings back so many memories with friendship bracelets. I use to make them all the time. I even bought thick rope and made plant-hangers! You could start a buisness ya know? I bet you could weave in some metalic gold or silver for something special. Thanks for the ideas, I have so much extra fabric. I wear headbands and ribbins all the time, so I'm giving it a go!
ReplyDeleteXO
So cute! I especially like your easy instructions. Ah, the good ol' days of friendship bracelets that were worn until they disintegrated.
ReplyDeleteOh how lovely! I definitely want to make one!
ReplyDeleteOh, love the illustration and instructions. It turned out beautifully!
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet little tutorial. Thanks for sharing, and your headband looks great! :)
ReplyDeleteThat's a fantastic color against your hair (which happens to be incredibly shiny and jealousy-inducing). Way to rock it!
ReplyDeleteLooove this! The color is really pretty.
ReplyDeletei actually saw one of these style headbands in a store today and thought of you and your homemade ones.
ReplyDeletei also thought about you while i was buying a new top just after i said i needed to save some money this month. eeee.
(i'm still admiring your self-control!)
Thank you so much for the tutorial! I've been looking for something like this. Now I can wear my own creation.

looks veryy easy, do you use the same string to make the four each time? or do you alternate strings to whichever string is on the right?
ReplyDelete:)
ReplyDeleteI really love this idea I just don't really know what to do after the final step on your diagram. Is there any way that you could go a little further in the process?
ReplyDeleteloved the idea, and the project turned out perfectly. I gave you credit and linked here. thank youuu!
ReplyDeleteThis is amazing! I love it. I just lost my job so it is a DIY Christmas and this will be perfecto for friend!
ReplyDeleteHey, just dropping by and saying-
ReplyDeleteYOU HAVE THE SAME GLASSES AS ME!
love your tutorials, keep up the good work!~
So fun! I used to make friendship bracelets to "sell" when I was little too. I lived in a coldesac, however, and wasn't allowed to go out of it to sell things. Needless to say, I sold 4. One to each house in the circle.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Rachel! We included this on our website :) http://fashionableearth.org/blog/2010/04/07/diy-headbands/
ReplyDeleteI cannot tell you how excited I am about this! I LOVE headbands and I'm definitely a poor college student. Thank you!

what type of fabric/ ribbon works the best?
ReplyDelete@ anon - Fabric works best here, rather than ribbon. I used ~1" strips of a 100% cotton fabric. Cotton/linen blends also work well. Ribbon is hard to work with because it wants to lie flat, whereas the fabric will bunch into more of a cordlike shape, which is reminiscent of the embroidery thread that friendship bracelets are normally made with.
ReplyDeletehow long of strips should you start out with?
ReplyDeleteHow do you attach the fabric to it? My hair is short so I can't simply tie it. :(
ReplyDeleteyou should put how long each strip is to start off. I just tried to make it and totally wasted a bunch of fabric.
