I buy wine for the label - Fuerza Malbec

Not in a snobby way. Okay, not too snobby. I just hate ugly labels.

This one appealed to me. And it only cost $4 at TJs.

I won't try to pretend I know whether it was a fabulous wine or not. I drank it, and I enjoyed it. No one else complained about it.

It has a screw top, which I am digging these days because it eliminates any awkward struggling with a cork (despite my mastery of the champagne cork, I am not so good at opening wine). If any of your friends give you grief about buying screw top wine, just casually mention that there was a New York Times article about it, and they'll have to back down.

    Oh, so loving the screw tops too! When I don't have a bottle with one I definitely have that moment of angst knowing that the wine opener and I will have to have a battle!

    I always get in trouble by the husband for buying wines strictly for the pretty labels.

    I don't like fussy labels either. My favorite right now is Maso Canali - they finally started selling it in my grocery.

    Haha, *love* this post :D I'm embracing my love for non-chic wines -- I just got back from a cruise that let you bring your own bottles, and none of us regularly drink wine so none of us thought to bring a wine opener. But go me and bringing a screw-top bottle! That was *delicious* (mmm, rieslings, you can't go wrong with those in my book). Go you + pretty label + screw tops ;)

    i think it's completely reasonable to buy wine for the label. luckily this time you scored (i've had plenty of bottles that have looked pretty and tasted horrible).

    pfft. screw top, cork top, whatever. so long as the stuff comes out of the bottle and goes into a glass, i'm happy.

    I love TJ wine! And you chose such a pretty one.

    Plus, aren't we running out of cork trees? I think screw tops are more sustainable if you aren't planning to cellar your wine for more than a year.

    (Pff, wine rarely lasts more than a week in my house!)

    I pick my wine the same way... I don't want to learn too much about wine because I want to stay perfectly content with a $10 bottle! :)

    I am a wine SNOP and wont buy screw tops-just doesnt feel liek wine-teh entire ritual. I know though pricey wines are all going that way- just old school I guess.

    i buy wine for the labels too and tj's is the BEST place to experiment. most of their wine is tasty and under $8 ... i can't think of a better combination.

    Ha! I love this post. I confess to knowing nothing about wine but if I go to buy a bottle, my choice is usually based on whether I like the label or not! Probably not the most foolproof way of choosing a wine but like you I haven't had any complaints!

    great label! i'm planning on doing a post about wine labels in the future and i might just have to include this one. my partner's a winemaker so i'm a bit obsessed about labels (and drink a lot of wine!)
