{bbq sandwich}
Barbecue sauce is a very personal thing, I know. I like it thick, tangy, fairly spicy and a little bit sweet.
That other bit of deliciousness in the picture is a mess of caramelized onions. I used my usual method, except with red onions instead of yellow. Red seemed more appropriate for barbecue.
Man, now I'm hungry! That sandwich looks amazing.
ReplyDelete(Sorry- I have no barbecue sauce tips. Good luck, though!)
ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh yum.
ReplyDeletehey rachel, while i haven't tried making it myself, supposedly ina garten's BBQ sauce is pretty good. i'm not sure if this is her exact recipe but i found one adapted by smitten kitchen

i have made several of ina's recipes and several from smitten kitchen and have been really happy with the results and flavors. as you said it's personal preference (as I think is with all food) so while it may be tasty and delicious to someone it could just be 'ehhh' to you. but that's the best advice i have. it's worth a shot. right?
You described the perfect BBQ sauce, without a doubt :)
ReplyDeletei always miss on bbq sauce... let me know if you have a winner ;)
ReplyDeleteTHAT looks amazing. And it is making me so very hungry.
ReplyDeleteI know this takes the fun out of it b/c it's already made for you, but I highly recommend ordering yourself some Rudolph's barbecue sauce. Even after my family moved to the south when I was a child (where they are very proud of their bbq), my parents would order shipments from Rudolph's. http://www.rudolphsribs.com/
ReplyDeletethis reminds me i need to make some bbq sauce for an upcoming bbq. i like mine with a nice kick of vinegar. i usually stick to this sauce as my guideline, tasting and adjusting as i go. http://colormegreenanew.blogspot.com/2009/05/smoky-vegetarian-crock-pot-baked-beans.html
ReplyDeleteapparently i start craving bbq at 9am in the morning. this looks pretty darn perfect, but i'm right there with you - it's so hard to find just the right sauce.
ReplyDeletei love ALL barbecue sauce... smothering chicken in it is such a summer thing!
ReplyDeletejust so you know, I was hungry and that picture of that sandwich put me over the edge....yum.
ReplyDeleteOk so of ALL the morselicious pictures of food you've ever posted this one is the first to inspire utter, wrathful ire; I want that sandwich in my hands RIGHT. NOW.
ReplyDeleteAnd ditto on the Ina Garten recipe.
I've decided to venture out and make my own BBQ sauce. I think I'll try the one you did and see what I think. I am determined!
ReplyDeleteOkay, wow this looks absolutely divine! I love baking and cooking, so I will definitely try this one out!

ReplyDeleteYUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
ReplyDeleteI'm looking for a good bbq sauce recipe as well. I just bought a boston butt at the grocery last weekend and can't wait to make bbq sandwiches this weekend. Yours looks deliciously mouth-watering.
ReplyDeleteI don't even eat BBQ and this looks delish!
ReplyDeleteThat looks utterly amazing, wow, I'm drooling as I type.
