Rearranging

We did a pretty major (heartwrenching) book clean out when we moved. I was feeling pretty good about the fact that we got our books on the low shelves in our living room. And then I discovered a couple more boxes of my favorites in the back of a closet. Whoops.

I rearranged a bit to accommodate them. I took the very old crate that we'd been using for shoes in our old place, put it on its side and filled it with books (it's deep enough that there are two layers, so one isn't visible here). Then I put a tray on top to corral my nightstand stuff. It's not the most elegant solution, but it works okay.

Our bedroom has been neglected. We had so many other projects in the rest of the house and I think we just ran out of energy. Until a couple weekends ago we actually had an empty dresser taking up a huge amount of space in there because we kept meaning to Craigslist it and never got around to it. We finally ended up giving it to my sister and somehow freeing up that space has me more motivated to make progress in the space.

In theory I want my bedroom to be a sanctuary with perfect linens and uncluttered surfaces. In practice it ends up being more like, can I sleep here? Okay, good enough.

  1. I think it looks great! Where is your giant lightbulb from? That is a cool look too.

    1. We took a lighting workshop last September and they provided the bulbs for us! I think you can get them at some hardware stores but we've had trouble tracking them down. You can find some online, though! The search term is "half chrome lightbulb". I'd send you to a specific source but I can't vouch for any of them!

    1. Oh yes, indeed! I had a pre-paid cell phone up until 2 years ago and I'm still really attached to my landline. I use Ooma, so it's actually internet based, but I like the feel of talking on a real phone better.

  3. Harry Potter! I didn't take all my books with me when I moved, yet somehow I ended up missing a few I thought I packed.

The nightstand is great, though. The tray keeps everything in place without falling to the ground.

    1. Oh, I hope you didn't actually lose any books! Maybe they're hiding somewhere.

  4. Even though you have referenced Elizabeth Peters on your blog several times before, I still get excited every time! I love the Amelia Peabody books so much and you are the only other person I know of that seems to feel the same. I was so sad when she passed away last year.

    1. I had no idea! So sad - I'll admit I was hoping for another book. I emailed my sister as soon as I saw your comment. We're both obsessed with the series.

    2. Yeah, I had heard somewhere that she had pretty much finished a new one before she died and that maybe it was going to be published posthumously, but I can't remember where I heard that and have no idea if it is real or just your obligatory deceased-author's-new-work rumor. I hope it is true, but if not I shall be content to read the old ones over and over again. Glad to hear you sister likes them too, that makes three of us!

Trying captchas this time - better or worse than having to log in to comment? Let me know! Sorry for all the hoops but the spam has been terrible lately!
