New splurge

I'd been putting off buying a new nighttime face lotion for ages because there are so many options, at so many price points and the research is just a pain. And then the internet worked for me* and I finally found one with almost no effort. It's officially the best face lotion I've ever tried.

rose day cream
{rose day cream}

It's called day cream, but I only use it at night, because it doesn't have SPF in it. It's very, very thick, and my dry skin loves it. I massage it in gently and it takes a minute to absorb. My skin feels a million times better since I started using it and I think it looks better as well.

I was initially uncertain because it seemed expensive ($35 for 1 oz) but I've been using it nightly for the last two months and I haven't put much of a dent in the tube. I'm guessing I'll get 4 - 6 months out of it, and I can certainly live with that cost.

It smells lightly of roses, so you'll either love it or it will remind you of old ladies. That's just a personal preference. I'm team roses.

*Emily posted a link to an article about Keri Russell's skin care regime and this is the lotion mentioned.

    1. I wish I had a skin regimen! As far as cleaning goes, I wash with Philosophy's Purity face wash every night and I use the Clarisonic Mia a couple times a week.

Maybe once a month or so I exfoliate with Philosophy's micro-delivery acid peel line. I don't really care about the acid peel part, but I love the exfoliant that comes with it.

I use SPF 45 face lotion every day (Neutrogena Healthy Defense) and that's about it! I probably should be adding an eye cream or something, but blah. That would mean more research.

  2. Seconds on that. And also your skin tone and greasiness levels? (and by tone I am talking about the pores, not color) I would definitely be interested to hear if yours if similar to mine, because I will buy this stuff in a second if it is.

I recently had to switch away from using all Body Shop's facial regimens and use Basis bar soap instead. I was dry but still breaking out, which has NEVER been a problem for me. Since switching to a $3 bar six months ago (which I haven't even used half of!) my skin has improved dramatically and I think I look better with less makeup! But if this cream can improve on that I will happily splurge. I am getting little bumps across my cheeks, which was one of the issues why I moved away from TBS, and while they're better they're not gone.

    1. I have pretty dry skin and don't tend towards greasiness. I think my tone is average (wish my pores were smaller, but hey, I guess they could be bigger!). I don't have very even skin and I'm sensitive to sun damage, so I'm pretty careful with SPF during the day. I rarely break out, just occasional pimples.

Ooooh - interested in the bar soap! My face soap (Purity by Philosophy) has been good, but it's pricey.

  3. I tried this brand a couple of years ago and it was pretty good. The only thing that kept me from purchasing it again was the strong fragrance (for me it was strong) I prefer fragrance free products for my face.

  4. I have to give a shout out to *Avalon Organics Vitamin C creme*. They might recommend it for day, I can't remember and am not at home now to check, but I use it at night. It feels a teensy bit thick on application (to me) but it seriously REVIVES, brightens and freshens your skin in wonderful ways. Go to bed with a little too much redness or blah and wake up glad you put it on, and noticing the difference. Plus... It's almost entirely organic. Winning!

    1. Thanks! Maybe I'll check that out when this tube runs out! I could definitely use the brightening. This lotion is amazing for skin moisture, but it doesn't brighten.

  5. Dr. Hauschka products are good, but I don't always like rose smell. I love DHC skincare products, most of them have no scent and the extra nighttime moisture is great at night. I'd say the prices are mostly reasonable, www.dhccare.com, I need to make an order soon, as I'm out of cream. Will you do another book review post soon?

    1. I'll have to look into the DHC line! Although I do like the rose smell, so that isn't an issue for me.

Hoping to get my latest reading up soon!
