Unbelievable

Basil ice cream from Sweet Rose Creamery.

I needed ice cream to go with a fairly sweet berry cobbler and I was tired of vanilla. This was perfection. I'll have to try to track down a recipe to make it on my own because the line at the store is ridiculous almost all of the time.

The lavender honey flavor was also a contender. I normally steer clear of floral accents in food (makes me feel like I'm eating potpurri), but theirs is subtle and amazing.

  7. I hear you on the floral flavors. I once had the most amazing lavender lemonade at my favorite bakery in town. It was so good, I went back and had it again...and felt like I was sucking on a shrub. Apparently each order is made my hand and the person who made mine the 2nd time around REALLY LIKES LAVENDER. I've been too scared to try it again.

I also--it's like I don't know myself?--bought some floral sea salt. It was pretty! I couldn't resist! It tastes like potpourri.

  8. Oh, you MUST try Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams at Home (cookbook). She's an Ohio cook who's developed an incredible recipe for ice cream, and she has such creative flavors, including Sweet Basil and Honeyed Pine Nut. I made it a few weeks ago and it tastes exactly like basil. The Sweet Corn and Raspberry flavor is also incredible. It's too bad her stores are only open in Ohio (and one or two in Tennessee), but it's easy to make the flavors at home.

    1. Oooh ... I'll look that up. The sweet corn from Sweet Rose is also awesome and D would be thrilled if we could make it at home.
