Reading, lately

Gobbled this up in one day, had to resist making D listen to me read the funniest bits out loud nonstop.

Untitled

I had to include the back cover, of course.

It isn't a biography, more like little essays, anecdotes and funny bits. It goes quickly and yes, it is light. In a good way.

One of my favorite quotes:
A note about me: I do not think stress is a legitimate topic of conversation, in public anyway. No one wants to hear how stressed out anyone else is, because most of the time everyone is stressed out. Going on and on in detail about how stressed out I am isn't conversation. It'll never lead anywhere. No one is going to say "Wow, Mindy, you really have it especially bad. I have heard some stories of stress, but this just takes the cake."
And this one:
I don't think it should be socially acceptable for people to say they are "bad with names." No one is bad with names. That is not a real thing. Not knowing people's names isn't a neurological condition; it's a choice. You choose not to make learning people's names a priority. It's like saying, "Hey, a disclaimer about me: I'm rude."
Dustin has been telling me that for years, but this was much more convincing for some reason.

  4. I read this book last Saturday. I loved it. I feel like she and I could really be pals. She and Tina Fey are the kinds of women girls should be looking up to.

  7. i'm right in the middle... and i'm loving it! the bad names quote is one i read three times, before sheepishly admitting to myself that she is right - i'm not bad with names. lesson learned :)
    glad you loved it too!

  8. I loved this book! I think my fav was when she made the stylist cut the gown for her People photoshoot! Have you seen the trailer for The Mindy Project? I can't wait for that show!

  9. Hah! The back flap alone makes me want to buy it. I'm a little disconcerted that both quotes address faults of mine, though.

  12. This might be my favorite book ever. I am so glad others have started reading it too! I laughed out loud too many times reading this. Love Mindy!

  13. Hahaha, I loved this book, and those two quotes are perfect. I'm bad with names too. I forget someones name immediately after they tell me it. I just haven't perfected my technique yet. I guess. Also, yes to the stress! Everyone is stressed out always. It's a good reminder to stop taking your stress so seriously.

  16. I read this a few months ago as a pick-me-up and really enjoyed it. One of my fav part was when she wrote about Amy Poehler and Will Arnett -- so sweet.

  18. that's funny, and love that back pic!

i have to side on the 'bad with names' being legitimate lol. Perhaps some people are rude, but no one that knows me would accuse me of that, and i'm terrible with names! i'm a highly visual person and never forget a face, and i'm focused on the meaning behind someone's words, and their energy, so names, pht, gone.
So someone else might remember your name, but i'd be sensitive to the fact that you're feeling sad today.
