Around here

The edibles are slowly being stocked.

gifts, accumulating

Teeny tiny glittery tags are being made. *

I finally got a chance to use the message in a cookie cutters that I got two years ago (my set is old, and I can't find anything exactly like it online to link to, sorry!). The verdict - fun, but sort of hard to get the hang of it. I think I'm improving.

Also, practicing being nice to myself. I'm not going to get everything done and that's fine. There won't be a ton of genius gifts this year and that's fine. I attempted to go buy a man's shirt yesterday and got so overwhelmed by the color choices and the crowds that I walked out of the store and went straight home and decided to re-watch Harry Potter instead. And that's fine. Actually, it's more than fine.

Because let's be honest - a long (self imposed) to do list and an overabundance of parties is hardly a hardship. Suck it up, lady.

* I've mentioned before that we have a glitter ban in effect around here and yes, it is still in full effect. But we are also both pro-sparkle, so solutions must be sought. These tags are in compliance because they are made out of purchased glittery metallic paper that doesn't shed. I think I need to go buy more, quickly. The tiny tag punch is an old Martha Stewart one, I have no idea if they still make it, but it's perfect for when you don't want to have to write anything except the person's name.

  1. Uh... we have the same cookie cutters. You, however, are nicer than us. We made all of our cookies say really nasty stuff. Real mature, eh?

  3. Your glitter tags are so pretty, they beat the handmade glitter tags I tried to make, so messy! Thanks for sharing this post, the self imposed to-do list/party situation has stressed me out all week!

  7. That's so funny, we have the same no glitter rule in my house, due to a Gold glitter Striped wrapping paper I bought one year that we are still finding tracks of! I'll have to try this suggested material. Where is it from?

  9. The glitter tags are great, but I want to know where that tablecloth came from! It's gorgeous....looks vintage, on the other hand could be IKEA. Do tell.

  10. I saw a punch tag like yours at Michael's this week, and I contemplated buying but wasn't sure if it was a "necessity". Seeing how you used it, I think I'll head back and grab it!!

  12. Merry Christmas! I too am overwhelmed by holidays (and wedding planning) this year. Clever gifting and wrapping and sending Christmas cards is just not happening this year.

After reading about your struggle with buying a men's shirt I thought I would point you over to Ledbury.com (my future brother in laws company, he makes beautiful shirts).

  16. I'd like to crawl into one of these photos and have a stamped cookie and play with those glitter tags! I also love that you left the craziness of the store and watched Harry Potter. I wrapped presents last night to Clash of the Titans on HBO and wondered if I was being the least festive person around. I decided it was ok. Wishing you a very Merry Christmas!

  19. @ Lauren - the glitter paper is just from Joann's, in the scrapbooking section. It's 12x12" paper and they had a bunch of different metallics. Love it.

@ JustJoan - You've got it! The tablecloth is fabric from Ikea (but last year Ikea, so I'm not sure you can still get it, boo).

@ Caitlin - We all have our own holiday preferences! My personal tradition to try to manage to find time to watch all three Lord of the Rings movies by myself. I'm not sure why they feel Christmas-y to me, but they totally do. So far I've only watched the first one this year.

  21. I love my message in a cookies! It's hard to get everything done in the season, especially with etsy business and all.....
Sometimes, this year especially, I think about secretly extending into January. Basically move all the activities taht can be moved and the time for baking and sitting in front of a tree doing nothing into January.... OR better yet.... make all my Christmas presents for the following year then! Gasp, how organized!
    Merry Christmas!

  23. My mom banned glitter in high school when I made myself into a life size disco ball sophomore year! I LOVE the tag idea and used it for our new years party, for seating arrangements tied onto champagne splits! Thanks for the awesome idea and Happy New Year!
