* I may do a lot of the cooking during the week, but Dustin is all over weekend breakfast, always. I love it.

** I'm not the only one obsessed with avocados this season - the pups were eating them all weekend. They can't finish one in a single sitting, but they are afraid to leave them lying around in case the other one steals it.

*** Currently averaging four oranges a day. This is the only time of year that I eat fruit on a regular basis. I'm more of a veggie person normally.

Mondays have not been happening around here lately. I mean, I get up and go to work because there isn't any way around that. But if I don't feel like looking over photos on Sunday evening, then I don't. I've been trying to institute a two hour pre-bed cutoff, wherein I don't do any work for at least two hours before I go to bed. No computer, no filling orders, nothing. I have intermittent bouts of really annoying insomnia (I fall asleep with no problem, but I'm wide awake at 2 am and can't fall back asleep), which I think mostly flares up when my mind is still running too fast at night, so I'm hoping this will help. So far I'm managing to stick to this 2/3 of the time, and I think it makes a difference when I do.

Whew. The point is, sometimes there will be photos on Mondays and sometimes they won't be here until Tuesday. My random and unsolicited sleep musings were just a bonus. You're welcome!

  2. The puppies with their avocado are so cute! :) I hear you about the whole no work before bed-- I try to do this too, only I've found that my dry economics textbooks are the best way to make me fall asleep!

  9. I hear on you on the instigation of pre-sleep rituals/rules - they really can make all the difference. Brava to you for taking care of yourself! And the photos are always lovely, whenever they go up.

  11. i think that is a good idea. my insomnia is linked to the winter heating - i wake up at 3:00 every morning and the heater is always on. i think i get hot and wake up.

  16. Great recap. For me, avocados are too expensive (and too delicious) to share with my dogs. They don't know what they are missing. Poor things.

p.s. I love that D is the weekend-breakfast-maker! That's my duty, but sometimes my husband surprises me with doughnuts from our favorite place.

p.p.s. Is D already wearing his wedding band?

  17. You're so nice to share your avocados! lol. Avocados in my house are horded and savored. I think I need to start growing them myself!

  18. @ Char - I've noticed that too! Sadly, I can't blame the current issue on heating, because our new apartment is so drafty that we've given up on heating it. It's like throwing money out the window in this place.

@ Stacy - Love that wedding, thanks for the link! Her flowers are gorg.

@ nicole - Not a wedding band on D, but I just realized that it is probably confusing. We've had people ask in real life, too. I never notice it because he wears it all the time.

Back story: I bought him that ring years and years ago (for $5 at some tourist trap) because it has waves on it and he surfs (and I was a teenager and thought it was SO HIM - it didn't even occur to me that it was for his wedding finger). Out of totally touching loyalty, he still wears it despite the fact that it cost $5 and looks it. Sometimes I tell him that I'm just going to get a replica made in gold for his band, which he thinks is only mildly amusing. He's looking forward to trading it in, I think, although it will be a little weird not to see it anymore. We'll have to do something with it.

  19. Oh, and that isn't even the original ring, because it got stepped on and smashed (I think?) at one point. Luckily, tourist trap styles are timeless, so we found an identical replacement when we were on vacation.

  20. @ DianeCruz - Oh, we don't share! They steal. There is a giant tree in the backyard and they find any avocados that fall. Luckily there are enough to go around.

  21. my weekend diet lately consists almost exclusively of avocados & oranges/clementines.

  22. My pup Gary loves avocados as well!
Keep it up with unplugging before bed...I have done the same and can really tell a difference in my sleep pattern and I feel much better in the AM!

  23. ha! i love that ring story. and i'm the queen of being flexible about posts. sometimes mondays come too quickly. wednesdays, too.

  25. I think that's a great rule. I try to live by that, too, or else I go to bed thinking about what I last saw/did on the computer. And this bunch of photos is especially great!

  29. I love the pictures of the dogs with the avocados too cute! I'm with you on the oranges kick-I can't help myself. It's like a little bite of summer.

  30. Nigella talks about dogs that live in avocado orchards having *really* shiny fur in one of her cookbooks (or maybe it was an episode of her show.) So now I always give mine a bite when I'm making avo. toast!

  31. I really do wish fruit and avocados were inexpensive enough here that I wouldn't mind my dog stealing them! You make California sound like a perfectly wonderful place to live.

    ReplyDelete
  32. puppies! avocados! washi tape! that, right there, is an incredible weekend.
i wish i could come to california and eat some avocados. in february.

not on my life in canada.

  33. hey! so cute! we just got a dog outselves a few weeks ago but i felt like i should tell you that the aspca brochure we got from the vet says avocados are harmful to dogs. it seems your pups are very fond of them but i'd defintiely check out that warning more just to make sure your adorable dogs are ok.

    ReplyDelete
  34. @ coley - ooh! that's scary! people with dogs should probably take note. luckily, i'm not worried about our dogs. every dog i had growing up ate the avocados from that tree and none of them ever suffered any ill effects.

we did check with our vet the first time we noticed them eating them, years ago, and he said they'd be fine but would probably have very shiny fur from the good fats. he did say that dogs that are gobblers might eat the pit and choke on it, but that's never happened.

maybe it's the readily available commercial varieties? i know that there are a lot of avocado types, although you see very few different types in the store. ours is an old tree, some kind of hybrid that is no longer commercially available as far as i can tell.

even if we wanted to keep the pups from eating avocados, it would be impossible in our yard. so i'm glad they handle them well!

  35. Silly question, do the pups ever get sick off the avocado? I love to feed healthy treats with my pug Frank - but have never even thought of avocados! What an idea ...
