Friday flowers

Thank you all for your sweet comments yesterday - I love reading your little stories. If you didn't get a chance to enter the book giveaway, get in there in the next few hours. I'll select winners sometime this evening - I know it's a short window of opportunity, but that increases the chances of winning for those of you who've entered, which is nice.

And there are flowers ...

tea roses, chair
{tea roses, chair}

Tea roses in a shade of orange-y pink that I can never resist. I have a rosebush of my very own back at home, one that I was allowed to pick out when I was a little girl, and it has roses of a similar color. I am prejudiced, of course, but I believe they are the most beautiful.

I frequently claim to not care about roses, but they pop up here rather frequently. I suppose I should amend that to say that I don't care much for the standard deep red roses. Or maybe I shouldn't say anything at all, in case I jinx myself and suddenly feel compelled to start purchasing them by the dozen, complete with accents of glossy ferns and baby's breath. You guys, if that ever happens, please stop me. Real friends would tell you if your blog was looking like an 80's prom date.

  1. These have always been my favorite color of roses! and I agree with you on the deep red rose. Very tacky.

  2. the only way i can really handle red roses if they're grouped singularly (a la beauty and the beast). otherwise, i'm with ya...they're almost too cliche to enjoy.

  3. Deep red roses + glossy ferns + baby's breath always reminds me of the bouquets my friends got in middle school for Valentine's day. (Probably from the grocery store a few blocks away from the school.)

    These, especially the fuller one in the bottom picture, are lovely. And there are roses that are beautiful; they just aren't ever the kind people think of when they hear "roses." (If that makes sense.) I always say I don't care much for them, either, until I see a moss rose or a cabbage rose or pretty little tea roses.

  5. Beautiful color! Full disclosure-I like red roses. But not with babies breath, they actually look very pretty with cut hydrangeas, the purple or the blue. Glad you are feeling better!

  6. Hahah! I'll definitely tell you if you go there. Though I love baby's breath on its own, en masse. And I like roses too. So eep! maybe I'm not one to judge at all!

    Have a great weekend.

  8. Oh, Jane - you know I love masses of baby breath. And I like ferns. And I clearly love roses. But I'll try to avoid the three together. For now. I can't promise anything.

  9. I hate baby's breath. That is, I hate it tacked on as an afterthought to roses. Your roses are beautiful.

  14. What is the "pokey" thing you have at the base of this vase? Does it keep the stems in place?
